The role
The QA Lead Engineer is an important position within the Fidelis IT team, acting as a key team member ensuring the quality of our software and systems. You will work to ensure a high degree of accuracy and quality during testing activities related to the development lifecycle including functional testing, smoke tests, regressions, bug hunts, performance testing as well as support end-user UAT. As a QA Lead you will work hands-on performing a mix of manual and automated testing, from UI/UX to backend systems as well as providing leadership and direction to other teams' members. You will be operating in a Microsoft tech stack environment with a mix of on-prem and cloud (Azure) hosting.
Key accountabilities
Execute the full QA lifecycle (gathering requirements and acceptance criteria, creating test scripts, test execution, test case management, supporting UAT, documentation, reporting, test tool management)
Collect and report quality metrics from test execution and inform stakeholders about risk and impact
Work with developers and business stakeholders as needed to design and align on specific testing strategies for features being developed
Create comprehensive test plans; execute and automate them as appropriate. Maintain and contribute to the expansion of existing test frameworks and find ways to improve the current toolset
Find defects and provide help to the team to understand any erroneous behaviour of the application under test
Support our infrastructure team in troubleshooting or addressing issues with applications and dev/test environments
Inspire others to have a Quality First mentality and guide them when needed
Work closely and collaboratively with software development teams on functional, performance and security testing
Formulate test scripts, test procedures and documentation which could be re-useable by other team members
Investigating, evaluating and making recommendations for improvements to current and new software
Work closely with other software development teams (internal and external), tech architects and business owners to refine quality requirements and translate business needs into acceptance criteria and test cases
You act as a quality expert for your team, providing direction on appropriate QA testing to improve our systems
Liaise with management across the business to ensure there is always an approach of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice
Input into effective documentation of relevant tools and reports
Work with the Infrastructure team as needed to ensure the technology environment requirements are known for QA and are planned and properly communicated

Monitor efficiency of resource use and efficiency of delivered systems
Develop a thorough understand of our industry and our products and services

Keep stakeholders up to date on all activities that affect their individual goals and be a point contact for work status
Continual focus on long term technology effectiveness, simplicity of solutions and appropriate controls
Estimate QA effort on projects and tasks, working closely with technical and business teams as needed
Support and build a team culture of security, innovation, efficiency, accountability and initiative, with a focus on process simplification and outcome delivery
Strong leadership skills, an innovative mindset and experience as a proactive team player
Take ownership of your team’s work and responsibility for the quality assurance of delivered systems
Work closely with technical leadership and peers to input into the creation of product roadmaps, estimation of work packages and setting priorities for your QA team
Skills & experience
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field
ISTQB certification preferred
Minimum 8 years’ experience in a QA role in a significant enterprise level or regulated environment delivering to robust QA standards
Strong customer service mentality with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Strong motivational and people skills, helping team members to excel in a culture of collaboration and openness
Excellent organisation and time-management skills, able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills, both oral and written with proven ability to influence change

An eye for good UX, practical UI design and logical UI workflow and how to build appropriate test cases
