The role
The Senior Software Architect is a key role within the Fidelis Partnership technology team. The architect is responsible for the design and correct implementation of our technical architecture vision.
In this role you will undertake structured analysis of our business needs and design how these needs can be supported and mapped to robust, performant, compliant, cost-effective software system, and then act as the guide to our development teams building effective solutions. You will be the point-person consulted about technical designs & toolset selection, and provide design patterns, direction, technology watch and recommendations on internal and external technology selection to make sure we have a uniform and managed technical estate.
You will liaise with our tech leadership and users across business units to thoroughly understand technology and business end-user requirements. As a senior tech subject matter expert, you will be responsible for the delivery of pragmatic software design solutions to the highest standards. You will be operating in a Microsoft tech stack environment with a mix of on-prem and cloud (Azure) hosting.
Key accountabilities
Designing and helping develop bespoke technology applications, tools and systems to support Fidelis’ business processes, including investigating, evaluating, and making recommendations for optimisations/re-engineering to our systems
Investigating, evaluating and making recommendations for third party technology use
Work closely with other software development teams (internal and external), QA and business owners to understand requirements and translate business needs into IT solutions
You act as a technical guide for the technology team, providing direction on technology use, reviewing and advising on design artifacts, working on API features and integration patterns & providing guidance to the others
Effective documentation of all architectural decisions and the criteria used to reach the decisions
Create and act as the custodian of the physical, logical, security, data and other common architecture models of our systems
Include up-front non-functional requirements in design thinking to ensure optimum performance, maintainability, ease of testing and low ownership & operational cost of solutions
Continual focus on long term technology effectiveness, simplicity of solutions and appropriate controls and monitoring
Work with the Infrastructure team as needed to ensure the technology environment requirements are known and are properly supported, fit for purpose, and kept up to date
Develop a thorough understand of our industry and our products and services
Ensure the quality of any third-party technical deliveries, liaising with outsourced partners as necessary, including evaluation of compliance against regulation including SOX
Work closely with technical leadership and peers to create product roadmaps, estimate work packages and set priorities for your teams
Actively do outreach and evangelisation of the architect role in the organisation to make sure the role is understood and adds visible value
Skills & experience
BS in Computer Science or related field. Graduate degree is a bonus
Minimum 10 years’ experience as a senior technical architect working with medium/large scale global technology companies
Thorough understanding of modern web architecture design patterns and approaches
Experience with C# .NET Core, ideally experience with other languages across the tech stack from front-end to data persistence
Architecture-related training a plus (e.g. TOGAF, Archimate, Azure Solution Architect).
Experience working with PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS technologies in the cloud, preferably Microsoft Azure
Practical knowledge of domain driven design (DDD), microservices architecture, API security standards, and API governance
DSL (Domain Specific Language) development knowledge or interest
Strong customer service mentality with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Strong motivational and people skills, helping team members to excel in a culture of collaboration and openness
Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced enterprise level environment
Strong communication skills, both oral and written with proven ability to influence change. You should be able to communicate clearly and with purpose, working effectively with team members and stakeholders across the organisation

Experience in implementing Message Queue/Microservice Architecture, with both on-prem & Cloud-based experience a plus
Solid Experience with ORM Frameworks (Entity Framework preferred)
Experience in the financial services industry (Insurance/Reinsurance experience preferred) an advantage
5 years’ SQL Server Database Development experience/experience with large datasets and data warehouse experience is a plus
Demonstrated expertise of Microsoft SSRS; expertise in Microsoft PowerBI a plus
Familiarity with Message Queue Technologies (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.)
Experience in Microservice Design, containerization, orchestration
A thorough understanding of Web API development and understanding of API technologies
