The role
The Actuarial Analytics Development team at The Fidelis Partnership (TFP) builds and manages a bespoke analytical platform that powers our partnership-driven business model. We combine actuarial expertise with advanced technology to deliver innovative, scalable solutions.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for advancing a programme of change across our evolving Analytics Data Platform. They will deliver projects that underpin essential business functions across Actuarial, including regular portfolio management reporting and ad hoc analysis, allowing TFP to capitalise on its unique business model and market position.
Interfacing directly with business stakeholders, they own change end-to-end and influence our long-term roadmap by applying contemporary practices, such as the Medallion framework and Lakehouse architectures, to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and simple. They will contribute to growth of the analytics data engineering function, driving the maturation of its practices through the application of contemporary and forward-looking technology.
This role demands proactivity, accountability, and creativity, with continuous demonstration of high-quality technical output, an innovation mindset, and a constructive critical approach to building robust, modern data products.
Key accountabilities
Deliver data-oriented change projects under the direction of the Lead Data Engineer
Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and secure data pipelines
Share responsibility for BAU enhancement and maintenance of existing data products
Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions
Transform data in Lakehouses and deliver clean, high-quality data for analysis and reporting
Utilize PySpark to transform raw data into high-quality, analysis-ready products
Implement rigorous automated data quality checks and proactive monitoring to ensure clean Data Ops processes
Document code and processes thoroughly to ensure knowledge transfer and maintainability
Work closely with other technology teams (internal and external), tech architects and business owners to refine requirements and translate business needs into IT solutions
Proactively identify bottlenecks in current data platform and continuously implement best practices
Deliver long term technology effectiveness, simplicity of solutions and appropriate controls
Create a supportive and rewarding working environment that aligns with the company culture as well as instilling a sense of ownership, accountability and technical excellence in the engineering team
Develop a thorough understanding of our industry and our products and services
Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in data engineering technologies and best practices
Skills & experience
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or related role
Proven experience designing and developing data pipelines
Strong understanding of data quality principles and best practices
Built and maintained data products using the Microsoft Data Stack (Azure Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Fabric or Synapse Analytics)
Expert-level proficiency in PySpark/Python
Applied experience of DBT, AirFlow, or similar for data transformation and orchestration
Deep understanding of data modeling, warehousing concepts, and the Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture
Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced enterprise level environment
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with proven ability to influence change
Ability to run and manage change processes efficiently, aligning with other teams as needed
Always maintain a high bar of quality; take pride in doing work well to high standards with attention to detail
Ability to follow and improve processes, and improve your skillsets on an on-going basis
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, agile and collaborative environment
Strong customer-oriented mindset and ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
