The role
The Actuarial Analytics Development team at The Fidelis Partnership (TFP) builds and manages a bespoke analytical platform that powers our partnership-driven business model. We combine actuarial expertise with advanced technology to deliver innovative, scalable solutions.
The R&D Software Engineer is an integral part of our innovation agenda. The role is responsible for delivering applied research projects in the pursuit of cutting-edge solutions that will further promote the company’s established pedigree of analytical technical excellence, allowing it to capitalise on its unique business model and market position.
They will work within the Actuarial Analytics Development function to grow the company’s IP by augmenting its bespoke analytical software platform and capabilities with contemporary and emerging technologies and engineering approaches (e.g. AI, data science), as well as academic and private/public partnerships. This role will leverage expertise and business context from across TFP to ensure the innovation projects are aligned with business needs and directed by diverse perspectives from our end users.
The role demands proactivity, accountability, and creativity, with continuous demonstration of high-quality technical output, an innovation mindset, and a constructive critical approach. Bringing insights from the insurance industry and modern technical trends is a strong advantage, although not essential; we encourage curiosity and growth in these areas.
Key accountabilities
Capitalise on technical opportunities that generate IP and competitive advantage for TFP, esp. targeting contemporary applications of data science and AI.
Liaise across TFP and partners to define requirements and deliver innovative analytics capabilities.
Leverage integrations of industry data sets with Fidelis’ portfolio for sophisticated and market-leading exposure management, event response and point-of-underwriting analytics.
Evaluate and make recommendations for improvements to analytics solutions and
Design and develop algorithmic data pipelines, tools, and
Work with the wider analytical software development team to integrate solutions into Fidelis’ enterprise analytics software platform.
Effectively document products to facilitate transition to business-as-usual activities.
Work with DevSecOps, QA, Data, and related functions to ensure solutions are developed, deployed, and maintained to a production standard.
Skills & experience
Required
University Degree (ideally Master’s or above) in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Natural Sciences, Economics,)
Demonstrated ability to grasp complex mathematical concepts, backed by modelling and statistical inference experience
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-specialist audiences
Proactive, self-motivated, customer and solution-oriented
Continuous improvement mindset
Coding experience (e.g. Python, R, Julia), especially in the context of modeling, data analysis or presentation
Experience working with large data sets
Ability to work in a fast paced, agile development environment
Desired
Experience with distributed computing for solving big data/big compute problems
Experience optimising analytical algorithms for speed or execution cost
Experience of building analytics solutions within the insurance industry
AI technology expertise and experience of its application to innovative solutions
Understanding of actuarial concepts
