The role
The Head of Pricing Platforms will function as the Actuarial Product Owner for Hyperexponential (Hx) Renew. The role sits at the intersection of underwriting & distribution strategy, actuarial insight, and technical delivery. This role leads the evolution of the Hx Renew pricing capability, ensuring that pricing models, workflows, and analytical tools empower underwriters, actuaries, and portfolio teams to make faster, smarter decisions & improve the commercial performance of the business.
You will own the product vision for Hx Renew, translate commercial and actuarial needs into a clear roadmap, and lead the development of high quality pricing models, reusable components using Hyperexponential’s platform. This is both a strategic and hands on role — ideal for someone who thrives on shaping product direction while still building elegant, scalable pricing solutions.
Other platforms include Excel and some in house platforms will need considered planning to progress towards our target state.
Key accountabilities
Product Ownership
Define and own the product vision, roadmap, and success metrics for the Hx Renew pricing capability.
Engage with underwriting, actuarial, portfolio management, and technology stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into actionable product requirements.
Prioritise features and enhancements based on business value, technical feasibility, and strategic alignment.
Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, and cross functional delivery ceremonies.
Champion best practice use of the Hx Renew platform across the pricing community.
Improve the standardisation of Excel based pricing models.
Pricing Development Leadership
Serve as the lead developer for pricing models built in Hx Renew, ensuring they are robust, maintainable, and aligned with modelling standards.
Build, optimise, and maintain pricing models, rating algorithms, and underwriting workflows using Hx Renew’s modelling language and tools.
Develop reusable components, libraries, frameworks and standardised model outputs to accelerate model development across lines of business.
Ensure models integrate effectively with data sources, APIs, and up/downstream systems.
Conduct peer reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor pricing developers and analysts.
Build out standard suite of key pricing metrics and implement to full model inventory ensuring standardised data capture for integration into downstream system
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with actuarial teams to embed technical pricing assumptions, exposure measures, and risk factors into models.
Collaborate closely with underwriters to ensure models reflect real-world decision-making and deliver an intuitive user experience.
Collaborate with data engineering and IT teams to ensure data quality, model performance, and platform stability.
Communicate progress, risks, and insights to senior leadership
Governance & Quality Assurance
Maintain documentation, version control, and audit trails in line with model governance frameworks.
Lead testing, validation, and release processes for pricing models and platform enhancements.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal model governance standards.
Skills & experience
Strong experience building models ideally pricing models in Hx Renew or ability to quickly upskill leveraging the Hx training offerings.
Understanding of pricing, underwriting, or actuarial modelling.
Proficiency in modern development practices (Git, CI/CD, modular code design etc).
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Prior leadership or mentoring experience.
Familiarity with API integrations, cloud environments, or data engineering concepts.
Exposure to agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban etc.).
A clear, well communicated product roadmap that aligns with business strategy.
High quality pricing models that are fast, intuitive, and trusted by underwriters.
A scalable development framework that accelerates future model builds.
Strong adoption of Hx Renew across pricing and underwriting teams.
A culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Actuarial experience (qualified actuarial status is not essential).
Demonstrated ability to apply actuarial expertise with a strong commercial mindset, combining technical knowledge with practical business insight.
Experience with SQL, Python, and R or similar.
Persuasive communication skills and ability to create appropriate slides, memos etc as needed.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel & ability.
