The role
The Specialty pricing function supports the underwriting of Aviation, Marine, Contingency and Space class of business across The Fidelis Partnership.
Specialty lines are a key strategic area for Fidelis, and this will provide the successful candidate with strong career progression opportunities and enablement to deliver effectively. The role requires a good understanding of deal structures, the ability to analyse complex data, and proficiency in developing custom stochastic and Bayesian models.
Key accountabilities
Developing and delivering pricing tools and models to the underwriting team for new and existing product lines across.
Perform portfolio analysis, generate KPIs and identify areas of portfolio optimisation to increase profitability whilst meeting client’s needs.
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with underwriting, outwards reinsurance, contract wordings, exposure management and risk teams.
Working with underwriters to deliver Fidelis strategy, managing underwriter results by monitoring experience vs plan and delivering pricing recommendations in periodic rating/performance reviews.
Prepare presentations for stakeholders, including senior management, reinsurance partners and investors.
Working with exposure management and risk teams to monitor aggregations to war, natural catastrophe perils and other systemic events and how they may affect specialty lines.
Facilitate horizon scanning across the pricing team – ensure we have a line of sight on all issues which may impact the portfolio and profitability.
Help price and review large deals efficiently and provide tangible underwriting changes.
Enhance data quality and infrastructure; develop tools to visualise and interrogate information for better understanding of policy exposures and claims drivers.
Perform sensitivity analysis on open claims to provide an early warning of ultimate claim movements and apply the same approach for renewal pricing analyses.
Support business planning activities & other projects as required.
Skills & experience
Qualified actuary (Associate or Fellow).
Familiar with Lloyd’s of London pricing & business planning processes
Demonstrated ability to apply actuarial expertise with a strong commercial mindset, combining technical knowledge with practical business insight.
Strong awareness of all commercial insurance and reinsurance classes of business, market conditions, performance indicators, and technical valuation techniques.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience with SQL, Python, Hx or similar.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to turn analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.
High levels of awareness of all commercial insurance and reinsurance classes of business, market conditions, performance indicators, and technical valuation techniques.
Highly results driven, with energy and drive to succeed in very fast-paced environment where flexibility and response times are crucial.
Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, including stochastic modelling in Excel or in another tool.
Experience of using SQL, Python, Power BI, etc. for data handling and modelling / analysis are a key advantage.
